The Kamalayan Kollaborative for Pilipino Mental Health
The Kamalayan Collaborative for Pilipino Mental Health provides a supportive, creative, intellectual, and community-oriented space to reduce stigma around mental health in the Pilipino community, promote the well-being of Pilipino students at UCLA, develop leaders for mental health advocacy in the Pilipino community, and generate and support scholarship and services around mental health in the Pilipino community. The Kamalayan Kollaborative for Pilipino Mental Health aims to (1) create safe spaces for dialogue and to uncover stories of mental health challenges and stigma in the Filipino Community; (2) reduce mental health stigma through creative storytelling projects, including digital storytelling, art, theater, and documentary filmmaking; (3) create spaces for scholarship by inviting speakers and hosting book clubs; (4) develop leaders and advocates for mental health in the Filipino community; (5) increase scholarship and knowledge about challenges specific to the Filipino student community around mental health; and (6) develop, advocate for, and increase access to services appropriate for the Filipino community.
